The County Assistance may refer you to either the Work Support or Career Development component of EARN depending on the status of your benefits.
Remember that every person’s circumstance is different! Please talk with your Career Development Specialist to make sure the EARN plan you develop will help you succeed.
Work Support Component
Designed to move new cash applicants into employment within a maximum of 8 weeks
If you have just applied (or reapplied) for benefits and have not used up 8 weeks of Work Support Job Search, you will more than likely be referred to this component of EARN
Activities can include job search (and, in special circumstances, combined Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, or GED prep)
Anyone who is currently employed or enrolled in training/school would not be referred to EARN Work Support
Career Development Component
Designed to assist individuals with minimal barriers to employment (lack of transportation or child care, lack of skills, lack of experience, lack of resources for job leads)
If you are unable to move quickly into employment in the Career Development Component (within 4 weeks), your plan will be re-evaluated to make sure any barriers are cleared
Activities can include job search (for no more than 6 weeks per year!), job retention / advancement services, some education, subsidized employment, work experience, skill training. Please be advised that training/education activities must be approved by the Local Management Committee before tuition payments can be authorized
