Job Ready PA--Industry Partnerships in Montgomery County
The department has developed several new industry partnerships to expand its grant-making capabilities in the area of incumbent worker training through Govenor Rendell’s Job Ready PA program.
Montgomery County’s Workforce Investment Board developed a Food Manufacturing Partnership involving 11 companies and a grant of $208,000 from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Department of Labor and Industry.With help from Montgomery County Community College, this grant will be used to train current workers in new production line equipment processes and safety skills.In addition, Montgomery County’s WIB brought together 32 companies to implement various skill training in the Information and Communication field.A grant for $300,000 has been distributed for additional educational purposes.
A partnership with the Montgomery County Industrial Development Corporation and American Builders Council continues and a successful summit in May gave an overview and scope of the project for the construction industry.More than 250 people were trained in 2006 with many more to follow in 2007.Finally, partnerships among the long term care industry, logistics and transportation, diversified manufacturing, and hospitality are in development.
